Litha is also known as Midsummer Day; in astronomical terms, it is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, when the sun reaches its northernmost point on the ecliptic. The ancients celebrated the peak of the Sun’s power with large bonfires. We rejoice in the Sun, celebrating its livegiving energy and nuturing warmth. We invite Fire into our lives, to purge that in the past which no longer serves us, and to give us the power to spread warmth to those around us.
