Yule marks the winter solstice, the shortest day (and longest night) of the year and the rebirth of the Sun. The ancients celebrated light at this annual festival, lighting candles, and reveling in the few plants that thrived in this weather—holly, evergreens and mistletoe. The mistletoe was especially revered as a symbol of fertility (though the berries are quite poisonous). This is a joyful celebration filled with laughter and song. The Greenwood Grove choir will sing for us, and Santa Lucia will grace us with her presence.
